Dermatochalasis Correction

Upper lid blepharochalasis

What is Upper Lid Blepharochalasis?

Blepharochalasis refers to excessive skin on the upper eyelids, which can cause a heavy sensation, affect vision, and create an aged appearance.

What causes Dermatochalasis?

  • Aging and loss of skin elasticity
  • Genetics
  • Chronic eyelid swelling (blepharitis or allergies)

How can Dermatochalasis be treated?

Blepharoplasty is a minor surgical procedure to remove excess skin and restore a natural eyelid contour.

What does the procedure involve?

Under local anaesthetic, a fine incision is made in the natural eyelid crease, excess skin is removed, and small stitches are placed.

Are there any risks or side effects?

  • Mild bruising and swelling are common.
  • Dry eyes or temporary irritation.
  • Scarring is minimal but possible.
  • Recurrence of skin.
  • Sore eyes.
  • Blurred vision.

What are the benefits?

  • Improved vision if drooping skin was obstructing sight.
  • A fresher, more youthful appearance.

Will I need a follow-up appointment?

You will be seen a few weeks after surgery for stitch removal and to assess healing.
