What is an MRI Scan?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an advanced diagnostic imaging technique that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to produce highly detailed images of structures inside the body. Unlike X-rays and CT scans, MRI does not use ionising radiation.
MRI scans are commonly used to investigate symptoms affecting the brain, spine, joints, muscles, nerves and internal organs. They provide detailed information that can help identify injuries, inflammation, degeneration, tumours and many other conditions that may not be visible on other imaging tests.
Our MRI service is delivered in partnership with Affidea UK, one of Europe's leading providers of diagnostic imaging services. Affidea provides the specialist radiographers, MRI equipment, clinical governance and consultant radiologist reporting, whilst Estuary View Private Medical Services provides a convenient local location for patients in East Kent. Affidea combines advanced imaging technology with specialist clinical expertise to deliver accurate diagnoses and an excellent patient experience.
Patients benefit from rapid access to appointments, with next-day scanning often available, and reports are typically completed by a Consultant Radiologist within 48 hours of the scan.

Our private MRI service offers rapid access to diagnostic imaging without lengthy waiting lists. Appointments can often be arranged as soon as the next working day, helping patients obtain answers and begin treatment planning sooner.
Following your scan, images are reviewed by a Consultant Radiologist and a formal report is typically available within 48 hours. This report can be shared with your referring clinician to support ongoing care and management.
Affidea connect patient portal
Patients will have access to the Affidea Connect platform, allowing secure online access to their imaging studies and reports.
Using the portal, patients can:
- View their MRI images online
- Access their radiology report once completed
- Download copies of images and reports
- Share results with healthcare professionals involved in their care
- Access their records securely from any device
This gives patients greater control over their healthcare information and removes delays associated with obtaining copies of scans.

Information for referrers (clinicians)
How to refer
We welcome referrals from GPs, Consultants, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and other appropriately qualified healthcare professionals.
To refer a patient, please complete our online referral form
Once received, our team will review the referral and contact the patient directly to arrange a suitable appointment. Following completion of the scan, the radiology report will be sent securely to the referring clinician and made available to the patient through the Affidea Connect portal.
If you would like to discuss the suitability of a referral before submitting it, please contact our administrative team who will be happy to assist.
Please Note
MRI scans require a referral from a suitably qualified healthcare professional. Prior to your appointment, you will be asked to complete an MRI safety questionnaire to ensure the scan can be performed safely.
Some patients may not be suitable for MRI scanning due to certain implanted devices, metal fragments or other safety considerations. If you are unsure whether MRI is appropriate for you, please contact our team before booking.
Following your scan, a Consultant Radiologist will review the images and prepare a detailed report. Reports are typically available within 48 hours and can be accessed via the Affidea Connect portal as well as being shared with your referring clinician.
