Dr Jacqueline Buchanan
Gender: Female
I am a highly experienced GP of over 20 years as well as a GP trainer, with a longstanding commitment to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care. Alongside my NHS work, I hold Core Accreditation with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. I also hold MRCGP (Membership of Royal College of General Practitioners) and have completed a Diploma in Child Health, Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Medicine and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Leadership and Education.
I completed my medical degree in 2001 at the University of Birmingham and worked in a variety of hospital medicine posts prior to commencing GP Training in 2004.
Over the course of my career, I have increasingly recognised that so much of the ill health I see every day is driven by lifestyle factors. While the NHS provides extraordinary care, there is currently no clear pathway as a doctor within general practice that allows me to fully practice lifestyle medicine, particularly when it comes to preventing illness before it develops. I undertook further training because I wanted to be able to help more people in a deeper and more proactive way.
My passion for lifestyle medicine is reinforced every day when I see how much better people feel after making meaningful lifestyle changes. These experiences continue to strengthen my belief in what is possible with the right knowledge and support.
I undertake this work in my own time alongside my NHS role. It does not replace any of my NHS commitments, which remain a central and valued part of my professional life.
